In 1965, the Mayo family donated the 10 acre estate to the Olmsted County Historical Society. In 1970, Mayowood became an official Minnesota Historic Site and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Function space is available for meetings, luncheons, dinners and receptions in the dining room, library, gallery, or outdoor terraces and tea house. Mayo Clinic offers general tours, as well as self guided tours, for patients and their guests. The general tour includes a 20 minute informative film about the clinic at 10 a.m. Monday through Friday at Judd Auditorium in the subway level of the Mayo Building. Art and architecture tours begin at 1:30 p.m. at Judd Auditorium on Monday through Friday. A self-guided audio art tour option has been created for patients and visitors who wish to enjoy the major artworks in Mayo’s downtown campus art collection. Audio hand-held sets and maps for the tour can be obtained at the information desk at the north end of the Gonda lobby between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
